Day 2 of Green Bay Packers Training Camp has concluded and these are my three takeaways from what I saw while I was there.

While the Green Bay Packers still weren’t practicing in pads on Day 2 of Training Camp, there was a difference in the overall tempo as well as the amount of time spent in 11-on-11 drills.

Just like at yesterday’s practice, there were some standouts that popped a little more on the practice field than others. So let’s not waste any more time, here are my three takeaways from Day 2 of Training Camp.

Keep your eyes on Fadol Brown

The Green Bay Packers signed Brown around the halfway point of last season. Although his playing time with the Packers was limited, when he was on the field we were able to see flashes of what he could bring to this team.

Fast forward to the 2019 offseason and Brown put together a very good performance at OTAs and mini-camp and it appears that he has carried that momentum over into Training Camp.

Whether it was in one-on-ones or in team drills, Brown was consistently beating his man and making his way into the backfield. And it wasn’t just on running or passing downs, he was a force in both areas.

With the Packers deciding to cut veteran Mike Daniels, this could create an opening for Brown to make the 53-man roster and if he keeps playing this way, I’m not sure how Green Bay keeps him off.

Oren Burks impressed

An injury prior to the 2018 season beginning derailed Burks’ rookie season as he was never able to get back on track and wouldn’t see much playing time on defense.

Now heading into the new season he is expected to play a huge role in this defense – particularly in coverage – alongside fellow inside linebacker, Blake Martinez.

Well today Burks looked pretty darn good out there, especially in coverage against the running backs. In one drill, Burks was glued to Jamaal Williams and although Williams made an impressive catch, Burks was right on him the whole way.

He was then up against Aaron Jones and once again was right on top of him and made the interception after deflecting the ball away. The following rep against fullback Malcolm Johnson, Burks forced a high throw from DeShone Kizer, that he nearly picked.

Given their skill sets, the combination of Burks and Martinez could be a quite the duo at linebacker, but the Packers need Burks to make that year two jump. And today was a very good start in showing what he is capable of.

Slow start for the offense

This shouldn’t come as a total surprise, given that Camp has just begun and that the offense is implementing an entirely new system, but the clear winner over the last two days has been the defensive side of the ball.

The offense has struggled with false starts, receivers aren’t getting open easily and as a result, the quarterbacks are under pressure, while the running backs are being swallowed up at the line of scrimmage.

Now there is an exception to this and that would be the Aaron Rodgers to Davante Adams connection. Big surprise, right? The two were able to connect a few times today on plays that went for big chunks of yardage.

3 takeaways from Day 1 of Camp. dark. Next

It’s only Day 2 so there is no reason to be concerned, but I mention it because it has been noticeable.
