Freddy Peralta

There have been many ups and downs for Freddy Peralta in his young MLB career. He’s had well-documented struggles getting out of the first inning as a starter but has also shown the ability to go deep into games when he has his curveball working with his electric fastball.

As a relief pitcher this season, he has found success. He’s been able to crank up his velocity because he is throwing fewer pitches in each outing. As a relief pitcher, he has an ERA of 2.57 in 12 appearances compared to his 7.07 ERA as a starter this year.

He has also been able to give the Milwaukee Brewers multiple innings per outing. In his 12 relief appearances this season, he’s pitched 28 innings which is over two innings per appearance. Any team would love to have that kind of versatility with starter potential.

Another great thing about Peralta that rebuilding teams would want is his youth. At 23 years old, he has years before hitting his prime and has already shown that he can get the best big league hitters out. His potential is off the charts and he will only grow as he matures as a pitcher.

Peralta’s name was linked to a possible trade for Madison Bumgarner this offseason, so that could still very well be on the table if the Giants still like what they have seen from him.
