Milwaukee Brewers: 4 potential trade chips for a big star
By Kenny Jilek
Mauricio Dubon
Mauricio Dubon may be the top target of teams to ship out their top stars for young studs. At only 23 years old, he has plenty of time to develop, though he may not need it.
The middle infield prospect has been raking at Triple-A this season. Not only is he hitting for average as you would expect from a middle infielder at .305, but he’s also hitting for power. He’s hit 14 home runs this year in 87 games.
He had plenty of time to work on his power last year after going down with an ACL tear after only 27 games. At the time, he was thought to be very close to a major league call-up with Orlando Arcia struggling. He was hitting a ridiculous .343 and slugging .574.
One thing to note about Dubon is that, like Arcia, he is a very free swinger at the plate. In his 27 game tear to start the 2018 season, he took only two walks. This season his on-base percentage is only 36 points higher than his batting average at .341.
Another concern other teams could have is his health. A torn ACL is always extremely hard to come back from, and while he’s done everything this year to show that he is 100% back, other teams could hold that as a red flag.
Even with his flaws, he is an extremely talented baseball player. He can hit for average, has added power to his game this year, and can play multiple defensive positions well. If the Milwaukee Brewers want to make a big splash at the trade deadline, Mauricio Dubon could very likely be the price they have to pay.
