Grading Milwaukee Bucks free agent moves on Day 1
5. Re-signing Brook Lopez
The Bucks’ front office made it clear B. Lopez was a priority heading into the offseason. The seven-footer was a critical part of their offensive and defensive gameplan last year. Overall, he averaged 12.5 points per game, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Most notably, however, was that he averaged 2.3 threes and 2.2 blocks.
B. Lopez’ spacing on offense was incredibly important to the team’s success. He not only knocked down threes on a consistent basis, but did so from extremely deep ranges. This pulled the opposing team’s big man far away from the basket and opened up driving lanes for his teammates.
B. Lopez and the Bucks agreed to a four-year, $54 million deal. That’s a nice raise for the big man who only made $3.4 million last season. Fortunately for Milwaukee, they bring back the anchor to their league-best defense and don’t have to figure out what life without B. Lopez looks like next season.
