Milwaukee Bucks: Pros and cons of trading for Chris Paul
Con: Contract
The biggest con to trading for Paul is his contract. And, oh boy, is it a big one. Paul cashed in one last time during the summer of 2018 and signed a four-year $159 million deal that includes a player option for $44.2 million in the final year. It began at $35.6 million last year and elevates to $38.5 million in 2019-20.
That extension will pay him through his age 36 season and is a hefty one for any team to take on.
The Bucks, who already have a plethora of money questions to answer, would have to figure out how to take on his massive contract. The Bucks have a few contracts they could stand to get rid of including Tony Snell and Ersan Ilyasova. Any deal would begin around Snell and Bledsoe and would have to include Ilyasova as well. Still, the Rockets would have to be enticed to take back those contracts.
This is the biggest barrier the Rockets face in moving Paul to any team and it’s only exacerbated with the Bucks. It doesn’t seem there’s a way around the contract which makes it highly unlikely Milwaukee trades for Paul.
