EDGE (5)

Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Kyler Fackrell, Kendall Donnerson

This is a position that got a much-needed overhaul this offseason and for good reason. Gutekunst signed Za’Darius Smith and Preston Smith in free agency and spent the 12th overall pick on Rashan Gary. With the additions of those three, Green Bay got much bigger at the EDGE rusher position.

With the emergence of Kyler Fackrell last season, who posted 10.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hits, he was another easy choice. Last year, Green Bay carried just four players at this position but with young players such as Reggie Gilbert and Kendall Donnerson, I believe they keep one of them on the roster, but not both.

At this point, it is a tough decision to make, but I am choosing Donnerson. We have seen Gilbert wreak havoc on quarterbacks and produce during the preseason, but in the regular season, he disappears. Donnerson is still a bit of an unknown from a lack of playing time but is a very athletic player which this Packers’ team is being built around.

My thoughts are that the coaching staff chooses Donnerson’s potential, over what they have seen from Gilbert. I think by now, we have a decent idea of the type of player that he is.
