Green Bay Packers: Way too early 53-man roster prediction
By Paul Bretl
Fullback (1)
Danny Vitale
Between three quarterback options and four tight ends on the roster in 2018, the Green Bay Packers uncharacteristically went away from the fullback position at the start of the season and cut Aaron Ripkowski. They would eventually add Vitale to the roster later in the season.
The last few seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans, LaFleur didn’t have the traditional fullback on the roster, but since coming to Green Bay has talked about the value in having that position.
Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers, who has a similar offensive system as LaFleur has said that they will always use a fullback.
With the Titans last season, LaFleur would use tight end Luke Stocker much like a fullback, but as we look at Green Bay’s tight end situation, there aren’t any options that are as good of blockers as Stocker is, so this may not be an option with the Packers.
LaFleur is going to want to fill this roster with the best 53 available, and not just fill a position to say he filled it. But I think Vitale and his ability on the field along with his athleticism, gives him a very good chance of making this roster on week one of the season.
