Running backs (3)
Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams, Dexter Williams
Coming into this season, I am incredibly excited to see Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in LaFleur’s offense which will give them plenty of opportunities and take advantage of their pass-catching abilities.
Before the draft, deciding on a third option at running back would have been a bit more difficult, and honestly, I would have been a bit surprised if they didn’t take a running back in the later rounds, given the lack of depth that they have after Jones and Williams.
Dexter Williams was regarded by many of the draft analysts as a third or fourth round talent but slipped to round six because of some off of the field issues that he experienced at Notre Dame. Hopefully, with Green Bay, he is passed those issues but on the field, the Packers are getting a very good player.
Williams isn’t going to be as flashy as Jones but he will fit LaFleur’s zone running scheme well as a powerful, one-cut back with very good vision. He sees the hole and he takes off. I wouldn’t be surprised that as the season moves along, Williams ends up taking some snaps away from Jamaal.
