The Green Bay Packers struck a deal with four potential starters during this year’s beginning of free agency.

The Green Bay Packers made everything official on Thursday announcing the signings of Za’Darius Smith, Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, and Billy Turner. The 2019 offseason has already been like very few others with Brian Gutekunst digging deep into the Packers wallet, and honestly, this fan base should be extremely grateful. After all, this what we asked for.

The upcoming cap hit is hovering around $23 million which leaves about $13 million to play around with not considering the upcoming draft class. Plus, after what happened to one of their veterans this week it became clear the Green Bay Packers aren’t afraid to save money in the long run even if it means losing a starter.

The decision to cut Nick Perry saved Green Bay a little over $3 million on this year’s cap. What made it relatively easy was possessing the knowledge that the defense would feature two new starting edge rushers.

Clay Matthews remains unsigned and there is very little buzz surrounding the former All-Pro who is now 32-years-old. Some rumors have suggested he may return to Green Bay to play more at inside linebacker but as each day passes it becomes less and less likely.

It’s pretty clear the Green Bay Packers just wanted to get younger and better on defense and free agency proved to be a great tool. All four signees are 27 or younger and diving into the prime of their careers. There’s a ton of potential and Green Bay hopes to be on the receiving end of a big reward.

For now, let’s enjoy the dawn of a new age in which the Packers are active participants in free agency. To kick things off, here are the rankings of their four new additions:
