Green Bay Packers: Under the radar free agents to consider
DL Mike Pennel
Another old friend, Mike Pennel started out in Green Bay as one of the feel-good stories of the 2014 season, making the squad out of camp and playing a fairly sizable role in the defensive line rotation. After a suspension and his release, he was able to find a home with the Jets, playing in all 32 games the past two seasons at the nose and starting in ten of them. A pure run-stuffer at the nose, Pennel has shown plenty of flashes in his career to be an impactful player on early downs.
If the Green Bay Packers were to bring him in, he could compete with Tyler Lancaster and Fadol Brown to be that top backup nose tackle behind Kenny Clark, saving the budding superstar some wear and tear in the run game. And he’d likely sign a contract with no guaranteed money, so it would be no loss if he gets beaten out by Lancaster or Brown.
