Keston Hiura

The most hyped prospect that the Brewers have had since Ryan Braun is second baseman Keston Hiura. Hiura has been tearing it up in the minor leagues with great offensive numbers and is looking to earn a roster spot sometime in 2019.

Keston Hiura was drafted in 2017 in the first round out of UC Irvine. He is considered the best hitter out of that draft class and scouts are starting to believe in his abilities more and more. He is the number one prospect for the Brewers, a top 30 prospect in baseball, and possibly the best second base prospect in all of baseball.

Hiura was given a hitting tool grade of 70 on a 20-80 scale, which is not seen very often. Defense is considered the biggest worry when it comes to his skill set, but when a player has the hitting abilities that Hiura has, defense isn’t that big of a concern.

Hiura had a great year in both the regular season and in the Arizona Fall League showing that he is a pure hitter. He ended up making his way up to Double-A and batted .293 with 13 home runs in 485 at-bats. Then in the Arizona Fall League, Hiura averaged .323 with a .943 OPS. With this great season, Hiura earned the honor of being the MVP in the AFL and earned a non-roster invite to Major League camp.

As much as fans want it, Hiura will not be the starting second basemen at the beginning of the 2019 season. As Stearns said earlier, Hiura will start in Triple-A but once again, with second base being weak, we could see Hiura sooner than later. Hiura has a great bat and the Brewers are a team that takes offense over defense. If he stays hot offensively, we will see him in Milwaukee in 2019. There’s no way to find out what month, but either way, fans should be excited to see what Keston, and what the rest of the prospects could possibly bring to this Milwaukee Brewers team in 2019.
