Mauricio Dubon

Mauricio Dubon is the most likely prospect to get called up around the start of the season and he’s the prospect that fans are excited to see the most due to his confidence and Twitter game. Dubon has had a rough year, but he’s looking to make a comeback and make sure his name is known around baseball.

Dubon was drafted by the Red Sox but was traded in 2016 to the Milwaukee Brewers with Travis Shaw, for former relief pitcher Tyler Thornburg (wow that was a great trade). Dubon is primarily a shortstop but does have the ability to play second base. He doesn’t have a lot of power, but he is still a great hitter, a solid defender with good speed. Dubon is ranked as the seventh best prospect on the Brewers top 30 list and is looking to work his way up or possibly retire from the prospect list in 2019.

Dubon started off hot for Triple-A Colorado Springs, but then suffered a torn ACL to end his season. With the Brewers having an issue at second base in 2018, Dubon would’ve most likely gotten the call up if the injury wouldn’t have happened. But in the games that he did play, Dubon showed Brewers fans what he was capable of. In 27 games, Dubon batted .343 with four home runs, 18 RBI’s and a .922 OPS. A great start to a season, but it was sadly cut short.

Dubon has a lot of things motivating him coming into 2019. He not only wants to have a great comeback year, but he also wants to represent his country. Mauricio was born and raised in Honduras and once he makes the majors, he will become the first player from Honduras to make it to the show. Dubon has worked tirelessly and has shown that he’s more than ready for this upcoming season.

With second base being the weakest position in the field for the Brewers, Dubon wants to prove people wrong and make it out of Spring Training. Even though General Manager David Stearns said Dubon will start in Triple-A, it looks like he has his eyes on that second base spot going into camp.
