Zack Brown

Zack Brown is the pitching prospect that Brewers fans should be most excited for. The right-handed pitcher has been dominating the past couple seasons and if he keeps this up, we could see him come out of the bullpen or maybe get a few spot starts for the Brewers this upcoming season.

The 24 year old pitcher out of Kentucky was drafted by the Crew in 2016 in the 5th round. Brown’s fastball sits around the low to mid-90s with a nice curveball and change-up as his secondary pitches. Right now he is ranked the best pitcher in the Brewers system and the number eight prospect among the top 30 prospects.

Zack Brown has shown what he is capable of in 2017, and he did the same thing and then some in 2018. In 127.2 innings pitched, Brown finished with a 9-1 record maintaining a 2.44 ERA with 119 strikeouts. With this tremendous season, he earned the honor of being Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Year and he also earned a non-roster invite to Major League camp.

The big question is, where Brown will end up when he goes deeper into his Major League career. Right now he’s a starter, but that could change at any time. But going into 2019, it could end up being another Corbin Burnes/Brandon Woodruff situation. Scouts have talked about how Brown could end up in the bullpen and this year could be the year we could see that.

Counsell loved using some of his bullpen arms multiple innings late in the season and this would be a perfect match. Just like with Corbin Burnes, Brown could fit into that long reliever role around the second half of the season.
