Given how his time ended with the Seattle Seahawks, we can say with almost certainty that Earl Thomas will not be back with them in 2019.

Unfortunately for Thomas, his 2018 season was ended because of a broken leg. During his career, Thomas hasn’t missed many games due to injury until recently. From 2010 to 2015, Thomas didn’t miss a game but he was out for five games in 2016 and two more in 2017.

Even with his recent injuries and being 29-years-old, there isn’t much to be concerned about when it comes to Thomas’ play on the field.

Over the course of 14 games in 2017, Thomas recorded 88 total tackles, seven pass deflections, and two interceptions. While in just four games during 2018, he posted 22 total tackles, five pass deflections, and three interceptions.

Thomas’ strengths as a safety are patrolling the deep middle portion of the field, which makes the opposing team reluctant to take those deep shots and his ability as a tackler. An area this Green Bay Packers defense desperately needs assistance in.

Last season, Seattle wasn’t willing to give Thomas the contract extension he requested but given his play on the field, he still warrants a multi-year deal.

On the open market, safeties haven’t been commanding the same value as in past years, so we will have to see if Thomas is offered what he thinks he deserves.

Bringing in Thomas would add a veteran presence to a young secondary and would be a great addition to the practice field and in the film room for the Green Bay Packers.
