1. Re-Sign Mike Moustakas

During the August waiver wire, the Brewers acquired Mike Moustakas for outfielder Brett Phillips and pitcher Jorge Lopez. After this addition, the Brewers ended up moving third baseman Travis Shaw to second base to make room for Moose. This was a big risk in the middle of the season for a team that was in a playoff race. They chose offense over defense and it paid off. People may want a “real” second basemen, but this isn’t a bad idea.

If they sign Moose, it would most likely be a one year deal due to the prospects like Dubon and Hiura coming up and the price could range from $10-13 million a year. The Brewers were successful with this infield, so why not stick with it.

Another plus for this is that Moose would end up with a familiar squad, but also that Shaw gets even more comfortable. Shaw started working at second in the middle of the season and he did a great job adjusting. Now, Shaw will have around a month and a half before the season to work out at second base and hopefully do even better going into the 2019 season.

And when it comes to the lineup, it’s very scary and it’s a little more lefty heavy compared to last year. If there’s a righty on the bump, they’ll have Yelich, Shaw, Grandal, and Moose all in the lineup. That’s a lot of power throughout those nine guys and with the short porch in right field, there could be a lot of balls leaving the stadium.

2018: .251/28 HR/95 RBI/.774 OPS in 635 PA (w/ Royals and Brewers)

This is a very realistic situation and right now, it’s the waiting game. Once Machado signs, then it will be Moustakas’s turn. Free agency is kind of like a domino effect this season. And the fact that the Brewers haven’t signed a second baseman yet, when they have had plenty of chances to do so, makes you wonder if Moustakas is the one the Brewers are targeting right now.

Next. Bumgarner deal is likely dead for Brewers. dark

Will there be a new face at second? Could we see a Moose on the loose in Milwaukee once again? Will the Brewers ride the Wade in 2019? Spring Training starts in a little under a month. Hopefully, these questions will be answered soon.

In Stearns we trust.
