1. Tryann Mathieu, safety

Tyrann Mathieu is an intriguing option for the Packers to consider.  And it’s easy to see why. Even with Clinton-Dix producing his timely turnovers when he was still in Green Bay, the Packers lacked playmakers on the back end. That’s a far cry from when the won the Super Bowl and had a number of playmakers in their secondary.

Mathieu was drafted in the third round (finally someone who wasn’t picked in the second) of the 2013 draft out of LSU. He played with the Arizona Cardinals for the first five years of his career and made a Pro Bowl and a first team All-Pro selection in 2015. After searching for a long-term deal, he signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Houston Texans last March.

Mathieu hasn’t quite lived up to the hype, only picking off two passes and defending eight others, however, he is always around the ball-carrier. His 89 tackles matched a career high. Mathieu can play up near the line of scrimmage and would immediately improve the Packers’ athleticism. He’s certainly worth a look.
