Green Bay Packers at Chicago Bears: 5 matchups to watch
5. Randall Cobb vs Sherrick McManis
In Week 1, Randall Cobb had easily his best game of the season when he had nine catches for 142 and a touchdown. For the season, he has 34 catches for 326 yards and two touchdowns. That means, in the other six games he has played, he has 25 catches for 184 yards and one touchdown. Cobb is the receiver that has been with Rodgers the longest, and he has that chemistry established that the rookies have yet to develop, but it hasn’t amounted to much this year.
With starting cornerback Bryce Callahan out for the season with a broken foot, a huge weight falls on veteran Sherrick McManis. McManis has been mostly a special teams ace for his career, but he has a big opportunity to show he can be more than that. After Callahan exited last week, McManis played well, but Jared Goff and Rodgers are two very different beasts. When Rodgers finds a weakness, he goes after it.
Cobb just hasn’t looked as effective all season, and, whether that has to do with injuries or losing a step athletically, he needs to step up. His contract is up and the end of the season, and, if he doesn’t improve on what he has done thus far, he could very easily be somewhere else next season. The Packers quick-hitting offense wore the Bears defense out in Week 1, and Cobb was a major part of that which he should be again this week.
