4. Davante Adams vs Patrick Peterson

In recent weeks, we’ve seen the playmakers outside of Jones and Adams disappear. Last week against cornerback Xavier Rhodes, Adams started the game strongly, but he struggled down the stretch. This week, his matchup doesn’t get much easier against cornerback Patrick Peterson, who currently ranks as the number eight corner by Pro Football Focus. Fellow wideout Randall Cobb may return this week, but it’s all about Adams’ ability to win against Peterson.

Peterson very well might be the most talented cornerback in the NFL. He could play wide receiver and likely be a top-10 player at the position if he wanted. His unique combination of size and athleticism is something only a few players at the position have. Even Adams himself has admitted that playing against Peterson is one of the most difficult matchups he has come across in the NFL since he entered the league.

With the struggles of the rookie wideouts and tight end Jimmy Graham, they will need Adams to have a positive outcome in this battle. These are the games where top wideouts make their bones. Adams has been making his claim to one of those spots all season long, and this weekend can cement his status up there. The offense struggles at times, and, if Adams loses his matchup, they could struggle even more.
