Green Bay Packers: 5 players who will be gone in 2019
3. Clay Matthews
Clay Matthews gets a bad reputation for not being the playmaking stud he once was. No longer is he the sack machine that wreaks havoc in the backfield, however, that doesn’t mean he isn’t a useful player. He can still impact the game in coverage and around the line of scrimmage
Matthews is finishing up the five-year, $66 million deal he signed in 2013 and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. His free agency will remove yet another $10.9 million off the Packers books.
If the Packers bring him back, it would be as a rotational player and at a rotational player’s price. However, it’s more than likely he moves on to a fresh start with a new team. If and when that happens, it will be a sad day in titletown.
