Green Bay Packers: 5 reasons 2018 has been a disaster

4. Lack of talent on defense

Mike Pettine is the opposite of McCarthy. Pettine gets more out of less than any coach the Packers have and likely more than any coordinator in the NFL. However, even despite his efforts, Pettine is working with an overall lack of talent on the Packers’ roster.

Outside of the defensive line, the Packers are clearly disadvantaged at nearly every other position. Kyler Fackrell‘s emergence has been great for Green Bay, but the outside linebackers have largely been incapable of affecting the game in a positive way. Blake Martinez is a stud, but the Packers don’t have a reliable body behind him. In the secondary, Pettine is working with a cluster of random players after gutting their safeties in recent weeks.

Even though the defense is serviceable, they haven’t been able to get stops and come up with big plays when they are needed the most. Even if other coaches leave during the offseason, Green Bay should still try to bring back Pettine as the coordinatiro.
