Milwaukee Bucks: Who will be the starting point guard next year?
By Jim Quinlan
2. Malcolm Brogdon
We’ve already gone through the reasons why neither Bledsoe nor a new addition are good options at point guard next year, so who’s left? The obvious choice is Brogdon.
He has played a lot of point guard so far in his young NBA career, but the question remains about him being a true point guard type player. He’s certainly a capable shooter and an adequate facilitator, but he lacks that elite quickness of an Eric Bledsoe that would help him both defend opposing point guards and beat them off the dribble.
He’s also thrived thus far as mainly a shooting guard in coach Mike Budenholzer’s system and his destiny as an NBA player may be just a shooting guard with some point guard skills or what some refer to as a combo guard.
Although I have doubts about Brogdon’s long-term potential as a point guard he could certainly be a stop-gap in 2019 until we can open up more cap space in 2020 to find a long-term guy. Although, there are also other guys on the current bucks roster that should be considered.
