Milwaukee Brewers: 6 completely realistic free agent targets

3. Joakim Soria

Yes, Soria declined his mutual option for 2019, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t interest in coming back to Milwaukee. The Brewers were likely going to decline it anyways as $10 million is a hefty price to pay for an aging reliever. Allowing Soria to decline may have just been a way for the Brewers to allow him to save face.

Following a midseason trade from the Chicago White Sox, Soria helped the Brewers’ bullpen take their game to the next level. Despite his 4.09 ERA down the stretch, he was a valuable piece in September and in the playoffs. Milwaukee will definitely be interested in retaining his services at the right price.

Soria could potentially earn more money than the guys who preceded him on this list. If that’s the case, the Brewers might look elsewhere. However, if they can negotiate him down to $6 or even $7 million for a season or two, Stearns might jump all over that.
