Green Bay Packers at Los Angeles Rams: 5 matchups to watch
2. Packers offensive line vs Rams defensive line
When the season started, the Packers offensive line was getting beaten on every play by opposing defenses. This week will be another tough test for a group that has gotten better, but they still have their weaknesses. Byron Bell has captured the right guard spot from opening day starter Justin McCray, but he still has some room to grow. Lane Taylor has also underwhelmed after a strong 2017 season.
Across from them will be some of the best defensive linemen in the NFL this season. Aaron Donald and Ndamokung Suh are top 13 options among interior defenders. Michael Brockers has also fared well, so the Packers won’t have a specific lineman that gives them an easy matchup. While the Rams don’t have amazing depth on the defensive line, their starters present more than enough issues for even the best offensive lines.
The main area of struggle for the Rams defense has been their run defense, and the Packers have had one of their more effective rushing offenses when Aaron Jones has been in the game. If the defense can keep the game close, they can use Jones to keep the Rams offense on the sideline and slow down the Rams pass rush. However, if they get out to a lead, they will come relentlessly after Rodgers.
