2. Jamaal Williams vs Ty Montgomery vs Aaron Jones

Through three weeks, the reasons for running back Aaron Jones to not receive more touches continue to fall. He is consistently out-snapped by Jamaal Williams, but he is far more effective when he is on the field. Jones is averaging nearly seven yards per touch so far this season. While this is a limited sample size, Jones needs to be on the field more, but head coach Mike McCarthy needs to put him into the game.

Coming into the season, the main selling point on Williams was his ability to pass-protect. He looks like an additional lineman picking up blitzing linebackers, while Jones still has some room to grow in that area. Jones currently grades better in pass-blocking, but he also was able to avoid two of the better defensive fronts in the NFL. Williams will still have a role, but he has to be more effective to keep it.

Ty Montgomery is the veteran of the backfield, and he is also the one that brings the most interesting aspect to this offense. He is able to bring an extra pop to every area of the game. Special teams, the running game and the passing game are all benefitted by Montgomery. While he should be the 2a on the depth chart, he remains a piece of this offense that will get his touches on a regular basis.
