Starting Rotation
1. Jhoulys Chacin 15-8/3.50 ERA/192.2 IP/156 K (1-0/5.0 IP/3 H/3 K/0.00 ERA in Game 2)
2. Wade Miley 5-2/2.57 ERA/80.2 IP/50 K (4.2 IP/3 H/2 K/0.00 ERA in Game 3)
3. Gio Gonzalez 3-0/2.13 ERA/25.1 IP/22 K w/ Brewers
We found out in the NLDS that the Brewers are taking a different approach than the traditional starter. In Game 2, Chacin threw five innings, only giving up one run, but was taken out after 85 pitches. The same with Miley in Game 3. Four and two thirds innings, giving up only three hits and taken out after 64 pitches. It will be interesting to see the game plan with the NLCS being a best of seven series.
The Initial Out Getters
- Brandon Woodruff 3-0/3.61 ERA/42.1 IP/47 K (3.0 IP/0 H/3 K/0.00 ERA in Game 1)
- Junior Guerra 6-9/4.09 ERA/141.0 IP/136 K
- Freddy Peralta 6-4/4.25 ERA/78.1 IP/96 K
Other Possibilities: Zach Davies, Chase Anderson
If the Brewers keep the same game plan, here are the guys who you could see get some big innings and be the “out getters”. The Brewers have done the bullpen game style in September and of course in the NLDS.
In this series, Counsell may look to see one to two of the out getters throw three innings each and then go to their specialty. Brandon Woodruff did it in Game 1and he threw three no hit innings. I have a feeling it will turn out well involving Peralta and Guerra too.
Key Bullpen Pieces
CP: Jeremy Jeffress 8-1/15 SV/1.29 ERA/76.2 IP/89 K (3.1 IP/3 H/4 K/5.40 ERA in NLDS)
SU: Josh Hader* 6-1/12 SV/2.43 ERA/81.1 IP/143 K (2.1 IP/0 H/4 K/0.00 ERA in NLDS)
SU: Corey Knebel 4-3/16 SV/3.58 ERA/55.1 IP/88 K (3.0 IP/0 H/4 K/0.00 ERA in NLDS)
SU: Joakim Soria 3-1/4.09 ERA/22.0 IP/26 K (2.2 IP/1 H/5 K/0.00 ERA in NLDS)
MR: Corbin Burnes 7-0/1 SV/2.61 ERA/38.0 IP/35 K (4.0 IP/1 H/5 K/0.00 ERA in NLDS)
The best bullpen in baseball has earned themselves an opportunity to pitch in the NLCS. Jeremy Jeffress had a difficult time in Game 1 and Game 3, but earned a two-inning save in Game 2. Hader and Knebel were untouchable in their NLDS appearances. Soria was a pleasant surprise, throwing two and two-thirds scoreless innings. And rookie Corbin Burnes showed he wants the ball, throwing four scoreless innings with five strikeouts. The Frosty Boys are ready for the NLCS. The question is, are the Dodgers ready?
