Milwaukee Brewers: NLDS series preview vs Colorado Rockies
By Sam Brahm
Brewers Starting Pitchers
Jhoulys Chacin 15-8/3.50/192.2 IP/156 K
Wade Miley 5-2/2.57/80.2 IP/50 K
Gio Gonzalez 3-0/2.13/25.1 IP/22 K
The rotation has proved the haters wrong and have shown that they DON’T need a starting pitcher. Chacin has been the ace of the team and has been the go to in must win games. Wade Miley has been a pleasant surprise for the Crew . Gio Gonzalez has been a great pickup, winning three of the five games he’s thrown with the Brewers. There is a chance Chase Anderson and Zach Davies are on the roster, but I’d be a little surprised if they got some starts.
Key Bullpen Pieces
CP: Jeremy Jeffress 8-1/15 SV/1.29/76.2 IP/89 K
SU: Josh Hader* 6-1/12 SV/2.43/81.1 IP/143 K
SU: Corey Knebel 1-0/2 SV/0.00/15.1 IP/31 K/.106 OPP AVG in September
SU: Joakim Soria 3-1/4.09/22.0 IP/26 K
MR: Corbin Burnes 7-0/1 SV/2.61/38.0 IP/35 K
The Frosty Boys are the best bullpen in baseball. No debate. Jeremy Jeffress has been lockdown all season. Josh Hader has had some hiccups, but when he’s on, he is unhittable. Corey Knebel has been incredible since coming back from his minor league stint. Joakim Soria has been up and down, but with his playoff experience, he is a key guy in that pen. And Corbin Burnes has shown a lot of potential in his first season giving the Crew meaningful innings.
This bullpen will be the key to their playoff push. There’s a good chance they’re not going to use the starters as much, so a lot of the innings will be on them. And that’s a good thing. For the the big games, you have to go to the best.
