All the highlights from the Milwaukee Brewers’ exciting walk-off victory over the Colorado Rockies in Game 1 of the NLDS.

The Milwaukee Brewers led for basically all of the game before Jeremy Jeffress blew a save in the ninth inning. Milwaukee led 2-0 going into the ninth before Jeffress gave up two runs and allowed the game to be pushed into extra innings.

Fortunately for Jeffress and Milwaukee, the Brewers demonstrated a skill they’ve shown all year; the ability to fight through adversity.

Milwaukee threw all their best pitchers in the game including Jeffress, Josh Hader, Corey Knebel and Joakim Soria. That meant they couldn’t really afford for the game to go much longer than the ninth inning. The good news is they took advantage of their only at-bat in extra innings and ended the game off a Mike Moustakas single that scored Christian Yelich. Let’s review the highlights from the game:

The Brewers’ “initial out-getter” Brandon Woodruff pitched a masterful first three innings. The only base-runner he allowed came in the first inning and then this happened:

Christian Yelich didn’t waste any time carrying his hot September into the playoffs and October. Yelich’s two-run home run was the only runs on the board until the top of the ninth. This man is nearly unstoppable at this point.

Orlando Arica, who might just be the Thon Maker of the Brewers, showed up on defense. This was the play of the night and might be the defensive play of the series for either team moving forward.

Hopefully, the Rockies learned their lesson in Game 1. And that lesson is not to run on catcher Manny Pina. Pina threw out two baserunners to end innings and should have obliterated any thought Colorado had about running on the Brewers.

The only blemish on the night for the Brewers’ pitching staff came in the ninth. Jeffress didn’t have his best stuff and gave up two runs to push the game into extra innings. The good news is he limited the damage and at least gave his team a chance to win it in extras.

The Brewers did a great job of rallying in the ninth thanks to a leadoff walk by Yelich. Facing a count with two strikes, Mike Moustakas came through in a big way and gave the Brewers a victory in Game 1.
