#5 RHP Jeremy Jeffress

One of the best success stories in Brewer history, Jeffress’s story is something to behold in and of itself. But as a pitcher in 2018, he has been stellar. Taking over the closer role after the All-Star break, he has been the ultimate fireman in baseball in 2018, part of why he’s 8-1 on the year. With him locking down the 9th inning, the team can feel secure with a lead late.

#4 1B Jesus Aguilar

Another example of a great David Stearns find, the former waiver claim got a chance at first base everyday when Eric Thames tore ligaments in his thumb and never looked back. With 105 RBIs on the season and some great defensive plays, Aguilar would have a case for some MVP consideration if it wasn’t for a couple of outfielders in the same clubhouse. He’ll hold down the 3 spot in the order.

#3 LHP Josh Hader

As good as Jeffress has been, and all accolades are deserved for him, Josh Hader is the more important Brewer. With the ability to go multiple innings and dominate, he could have the same impact that Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman had for the Indians and Cubs respectively in 2016. He’s that good. There is no better left handed reliever in baseball.

#2 OF Lorenzo Cain

The owner of the richest free agent contract in team history, Cain has been worth every penny so far. A true veteran who’s adapted his approach at the plate to match his spot at the top of the order, Cain is having his best season as a pro at the dish. And his defense is consistently spectacular, likely leading to a Gold Glove at the end of the season. He’d be a clear choice for number one if the other guy acquired on January 25 wasn’t on a historic pace.

#1 OF Christian Yelich

The now clear favorite for NL MVP, Yelich’s acquisition is already being seen as one of the more lopsided trades in NL history. On pace for the first batting title in team history along with a career high in homers, over 100 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases, he has been everything that he’s been advertised. Throw in his good defense and smooth as silk baserunning and he’s easily the most important Brewer and potentially most important player period in the National League playoffs.
