2. Run defense

The Packers’ run defense has been a bag of mixed results so far. They got tore up against the Bears, giving up 139 yards on 27 carries for a 5.1 average. However, it’s important to note they ran a ton of packages which included six or even seven defensive backs. Basically, they were daring Mitch Trubisky to beat them.

The defense then rebounded nicely against the Vikings, only allowing 68 yards on 18 carries for a 3.8 yard per carry average. By dominating the run game against Minnesota, the Packers forced them to be one-dimensional.

The same game plan will carry over against Washington. The Packers will want Alex Smith to have to beat them, as they work hard to take away Adrian Peterson and Washington’s run game. After a stellar Week 1 in which Peterson ran for 96 yards and a touchdown, he put up a dud against the Colts, accruing only 20 yards on 11 carries. It should be more of the same for Peterson, as the Packers focus on bottling up the run.
