Green Bay Packers: 5 overreactions heading into Week 3 vs Redskins

2. Packers’ defense is ready to step up.

Yes, the Packers defense set the tone for three quarters of football against the Vikings, proving they have the talent to do so. The bad news is they failed to finish the game and gave up a touchdown and two-point conversion in the final minute and a half.

Green Bay certainly took positive strides on that side of the ball in Week 2, but they also showed they aren’t quite ready to completely carry this team.

The Packers’ tandem of rookie cornerbacks played fairly well and Jaire Alexander actually had a (likely) game-clinching interception wiped away after a roughing the passer by Clay Matthews. Alexander and Josh Jackson’s future is certainly bright.

However, the lack of a consistent pass rush and the awful safety play were too much to overcome. There’s no sign that will improve with the current collection of players, meaning the defense will have to wait another season to be ready to truly step up and lead the way.
