The Milwaukee Bucks have a great chance to improve on defense in 2018-19. These five players will anchor the team on that side of the floor.

For the past couple of seasons, the Milwaukee Bucks have been a team with a ton of offensive talent, but one that has disappointed mightily on defense. Most of that was due to the scheme in place by the coaching staff, but Milwaukee won’t be able to use that excuse anymore heading into the 2018-19 campaign.

New head coach Mike Budenholzer has demonstrated a similar scheme in the past, but the expectation is that he dials that down a few notches. Regardless, Budenholzer’s knowledge about how to play team defense at an NBA level is infinitely higher than the last coaching regime.

If the scheme is in place, the Bucks have enough defensively talented players to become a league-average defense. That might not seem like high aspirations, but not everyone can be league-average.

Milwaukee’s defensive strength specifically lies in their perimeter defense. They sport a number of wings (Khris Middleton, Tony Snell, Sterling Brown, Malcolm Brogdon) who can defend multiple positions and use their length to bother opposing teams. Without further ado, let’s rank the Bucks’ top five defensive players heading into the 2018-19 season.
