Stock up: Rookie Corners

Jaire Alexander and Josh Jackson, the Packers’ first and second round picks, respectively, in the 2018 NFL Draft, made a quiet impact in their first regular season action. Sure, they didn’t come up with a big play that turned heads, but they did their jobs and were solid. And that’s all you ask for in the rookies first game.

Jackson played ahead of Davon House in the dime package and proved his worth. Green Bay ended up playing with a lot more defensive backs than anyone could’ve predicted and part of that was Mike Pettine’s trust in Jackson.

Alexander played almost exclusively in the slot and was the nickel corner for the Packers. He gave up one big reception to Allen Robinson, but Alexander did everything he could. He ran stride for stride with the big receiver, but was unable to knock the ball away. That’s going to happen from time to time given Alexander’s short stature. Overall, the rookies laid down some fundamental building blocks they can use moving forward.
