The Green Bay Packers have a number of goals heading into their Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Let’s preview their ultimate hopes in this game.

The 2018 NFL season is finally here. After waiting for an offseason that never seemed like it was going to end, the first football-filled Sunday is here. And the Green Bay Packers take on the Chicago Bears under the lights at Lambeau field to kick off the season.

There’s no better way to celebrate the Packers’ centennial season then by starting it with the oldest rivalry in the NFL. Hopefully, the Packers can continue their recent momentum against Chicago and take home a victory to begin the season.

Before they get there, however, they’ll have to accomplish a number of tasks. Whether or not they have success in their identified areas will go a long way in determining who wins this ballgame. Let’s take a look at five goals the Packers have heading into their Week 1 showdown at Lambeau Field.

5. Establish a running game

The Packers are at their best when they can force the defense to respect the running game. In year’s past, Green Bay has been extremely one-sided and teams have left the box empty to stop Aaron Rodgers and the passing game.

Fortunately, that should change this season. The Packers have a trio of running backs in Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones and Ty Montgomery who can force defenses to respect the run. Even with Jones suspended for the first two weeks, Williams and Montgomery will do more than enough to make the Bears pay for leaving too few men in the box.
