3. Packers defense ranks 16th in points per game

The last time the Packers had a solid defense was back in 2011 when they won the Super Bowl. Of course, their defense was more than solid that year, it was one of the best in the entire NFL. Unfortunately, they’ve been below average ever since.

That should change this season with the influx of talent at the cornerback position and a new defensive coordinator who appears capable of adapting his schemes to fit the gameplan and the players on his roster.

Thanks to Rodgers’ greatness and the fact that the offense should be really good once again, Green Bay doesn’t need a top-five defense to carry them. That’s the offenses job. What they do need is a defense who can hold their own and not give up points in bunches. Pettine’s unit will return to mediocracy, finishing the season ranked 16th in the most important defensive category, points per game.
