Green Bay Packers: Five toughest cuts in 2018
2. TE Emanuel Byrd
Byrd was a great underdog story and it’s sad to see his NFL career won’t pan out in Green Bay.
After going undrafted out of Marshall University in 2017, Byrd was picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs. However, he was released during the first week of training camp and considered giving up on football. He would not receive a call until November when a spot opened up on the Packers’ practice squad.
Happy to get another chance, Byrd made the most of the opportunity and even got called up onto the active roster for the final week of the regular season. He only saw a handful of snaps but Byrd caught two passes for 31 yards.
He carried momentum towards making Green Bay’s roster this time around but winded up being outperformed by Tonyan. Byrd caught six passes for 59 yards during the preseason putting together some strong film for other teams to consider.
His NFL career might just be getting started.
