Honorable Mention:

2017: The Almost Undefeated Year – scored 33.8 points per game which ranked Wisconsin 28th nationally. Not included in the list because the competition was pretty weak last year.

2014:  The Year of Melvin Gordon  – scored 34.6 points per game which was 29th in the country.  Gordon was unstoppable, but I refuse to put any offense with Joel Stave as QB in the top 5 all-time. The first time I’ve ever seen a team run the ball in the two-minute drill and it be a FAR better option than passing the ball.

1993: The First Rose Bowl Year-29.5 points per game, 29th in country. In researching this, Darrell Bevell really was ahead of his time, he’s still up there in the Wisconsin record books for passing.  Plus this team had Brent Moss, Terrell Fletcher and announced the arrival of Badgers’ football as we know it today.

5. 2005: The Brian Calhoun Year

The Badgers scored 34.3 points per game which ranked 14th nationally.  John Stocco did the quarterbacking and this was by far his best year. Stocco, although polarizing at the time, did finish his career as the Badgers No. 2 all-time passer.

Other notable skill position players were Brandon Williams, Jonathon Orr, Owen Daniels and, of course, Brian Calhoun. Calhoun transferred from Colorado and may be the best pass-catching back Wisconsin has ever had.  He finished with 53 catches on the year and combining that with his 348 rush attempts, he racked up over 2200 yards from scrimmage. Oh, and don’t forget there was a guy named Joe Thomas on this team also.
