3. Kyle Murphy

Kyle Murphy has struggled this preseason and has completely lost the confidence of the coaching staff. He began the preseason playing left tackle, a little out of position, but most critics thought he’d do better on the right side of the line. However, that failed to be true against the Oakland Raiders where he was equally bad.

If David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga, two of the very best tackles in the league, can stay healthy then Murphy’s struggles should never be an issue. However, Bulaga has a history of injuries and Bakhtiari missed a few games last season. In that case, Jason Spriggs is tagged to be next in line, but Murphy’s name could always get called.

Right now, the only thing saving Murphy is Green Bay’s lack of options outside of their top three tackles. Byron Bell appears to be better suited as a guard, taking another option away from the Packers. However, if Green Bay decides they can get creative at the position, like moving Lane Taylor to tackle if needed, then Murphy might become expendable.
