3. Greer Martini

After the first few weeks of training camp and the first preseason game, Greer Martini appeared poised to lock down a roster spot as a backup inside linebacker and a special teams contributor. Unfortunately, he’s faltered lately and might be on the outside looking in at this point.

Ahead of Martini appears to be a trio of interesting players. Of course, Blake Martinez is locked in as the stud and every down inside backer. And Oren Burks is the passing-down specialist. Ahmad Thomas might have also surpassed Martini, moving the undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame further down the list.

To make things even more complicated, safety/hybrid Josh Jones might get some time at the position in passing downs as well. This takes even more opportunities away from Martini. With the quarterbacks and receivers likely holding down an extra position this season, Martini might suffer the consequences. Unless he turns things around, he’s likely headed to the practice squad.
