5. DeShone Kizer Takes Over the No. 2 Quarterback Role

Throughout camp, Mike McCarthy has been running Brett Hundley out as the number two quarterback, pointing to his footwork and knowledge of the offense as main factors. And Hundley hasn’t disappointed, taking a step forward in the preseason. He’s been throwing with confidence and has been sound with his decisions. But he’s still losing ground on the backup job.

That’s because of the consistent and rapid growth of DeShone Kizer. After a solid showing against the Tennessee Titans in his first game as a Packer, Kizer took off last week against Pittsburgh. Throwing for 149 yards and a pair of scores in his limited action, Kizer looked the part of a high end backup in 2018. He made perhaps the throw of the preseason so far with his touchdown to Jake Kumerow, slinging a bullet outside the numbers where Kumerow was able to catch and turn upfield.

Throws like that will jump Kizer up the depth chart, and he’ll continue that against Oakland. With a shaky secondary and issues with their depth, Kizer will shred the Raiders and throw for a couple more touchdowns to pass Hundley and enter the season as the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers.
