Green Bay Packers: 3 studs and duds from training camp
Stud Number 1. Wide Receiver Jake Kumerow
After Jeff Janis departed, the Packers faithful needed a new folk hero to worship. Their long-haired hero came in the form of former undrafted free agent Jake Kumerow out of the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. The former undrafted free agent has bounced around since failing to be drafted in 2015. Since signing on with the Packers, he has consistently made plays and gained the trust of Rodgers.
He doesn’t possess the youth or long-term financial cheapness of the rookies. However, he possesses some veteran savvy that the rookies lack. He’s been around the NFL for a couple years, with teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots. Kumerow is on the roster bubble right now, but he can solidify a spot with more play at his current level. Rodgers has tremendous sway in regards to his pass-catchers, and Kumerow is in those good-graces.
If Kumerow gets cut, he won’t be a free agent for very long. His play this preseason has flashed big-play ability, while also being a good route runner. Kumerow has endeared himself to the Packer faithful. If he ends up getting cut, Packer fans will be crushed. He needs to hope that his AC joint issue doesn’t last long. If it persists, that will allow others to close the gap on him. However, he’s built a very large gap so far.
