2. Who gets the Second Team Reps Opposite Reggie Gilbert?

After two great training camps, Reggie Gilbert is finally a lock for the roster. He’s only gotten better as he has gotten experience and is now slotted as a starter opposite Clay Matthews until Nick Perry is ready to get back on the field. The key question now is who will line up opposite him once Matthews exits the game and Gilbert stays out with the second team.

The most obvious name is Vince Biegel. The second-year man had a key fumble recovery last week and has shown the motor and tenacity that he had in Madison during his college career, but he hasn’t shown the natural pass rush acumen that a guy like Gilbert has.

The other options include Kyler Fackrell, who has shown flashes of finally turning the corner, but seems better off the ball and in space than as an edge rusher. Chris Odom and Kendall Donnerson are also darkhorse candidates to take the spot. Odom has slimmed down since he was claimed last year and is showing more flashes as an edge player, while Donnerson had the biggest splash play last week, forcing the fumble that Biegel recovered. The smart odds are on Biegel to be the edge opposite Gilbert, but the other guys can’t be counted out.
