Green Bay Packers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers: 5 storylines
4. Morgan Burnett’s return
The Packers selected Morgan Burnett with the 71st overall pick (third round) in the 2010 draft. It took him one year, but since then he has become a stalwart on this Packers’ defense, starting 98 games over the last seven seasons.
Unfortunately, the Packers let Burnett, a free agent, walk this past offseason. Burnett had struggled with re-occurring injuries over the past five seasons, causing him to miss 14 games during that span. Even when Burnett was on the field, his speed had been sapped from the lingering injuries.
In the offseason, Burnett signed a three-year, $14.35 million deal with the Steelers. Although it’s unclear if he’ll see the field, Burnett returning to the team that drafted him and the place he spent the first eight years of his career at is a big deal. It’s certain the secondary will greet him with a warm welcome.
