The ultimate goal of every preseason game is for overarching development. However, the Green Bay Packers will have these 5 specific goals in mind.

The preseason is much more than wins or losses. It’s about internal improvement. That’s true for every team, but especially so for a team that has a Super Bowl victory on its mind like the Green Bay Packers do. As head coach Mike McCarthy will tell you, it’s not about where your team is in August, it’s where they are in January that counts.

Every week, the coaches are looking for specific tasks from specific players. The playbooks are extremely vanilla in the preseason and this allows players to just go out and show the coaching staff what they got with the ultimate goal being improvement.

Last week, the Packers took a good first step with some of the showings from their young players against the Tennessee Titans. This week, they’ll look to continue the momentum against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

With these five goals in mind, the Packers’ front office and coaching staff will be able to truly judge the game and determine whether it was a success or failure. Let’s check in on what specific traits they’ll be looking for from their players.
