5. Jamaal Williams

Jamaal Williams was listed at the Packers’ No. 1 running back in the first release. This is somewhat surprising considering the other players at the position. Ty Montgomery was listed immediately behind him at the No. 2 spot with Aaron Jones falling all the way to No. 3.

Before training camp begun, Williams was thought to be the No. 2 or No. 3 back behind Jones and alongside Montgomery. However, Jones is suspended for the first two games of the season and has been limited due to a hamstring injury.

To make his case seven stronger, Williams has been praised by McCarthy as having transformed his body during the offseason. Williams is the most powerful runner of the three and will likely hold down the short yardage role throughout the whole year. However, it’s great news for the second year runner that he’s beginning the preseason on the top of the depth chart.
