The Green Bay Packers released the first depth chart of the season and there are a number of surprises. That’s pretty typical for this time of the year, as the coaches have only had a limited number of practices to formulate their opinions.
Like always, the depth chart is a working document with players able to move up and down on an almost daily basis. Sometimes, the coaches might even use the depth chart as motivation to help kickstart a sluggish player.
Even with the surprises on the depth chart, one thing remains consistent and it appears to be that Mike McCarthy prefers his veterans over the rookies and young players. Up and down the depth chart, guys who haven’t been in the NFL very long were behind those who have tenure in this league. That’s not surprising considering McCarthy’s penchant for veterans.
