Cy Young: Jeremy Jeffress

The Brewers pitching staff has been tremendous so far in 2018. Even if they haven’t had one standout star in their rotation, they have had enough pitchers put together average to slightly above average starts to keep them in games.

The bullpen is a little bit different. They’ve had quality performances from a number of pitchers and have a couple of complete studs as well. Jeremy Jeffress and Josh Hader are probably the two pitchers who are most qualified for this award, as both have been terrific.

Despite all the (deserved) hype surrounding Hader, I’m going to hand this award to Jeffress. Jeffress has been absolutely terrific for the Brewers and is arguably their most important pitcher in the bullpen.

He’s not typically called upon to save games at the end, instead, he’s thrown into much more dangerous waters. Anytime a pitcher gets himself into a jam in the middle to late innings, Jeffress enters to saves the day. He’s one of the best at inheriting runners and keeping them on base as his team gets out of a jam. Because of that, he’s the Brewers first half Cy Young winner.
