5. Oren Burks has at lest three picks and three sacks

The Packers desperately needed some depth at the middle linebacker position and appear to have gotten some with the selection of Oren Burks in the third round. Blake Martinez was a breakout star for the defense last season and was very stout against the run and pass alike. However, there are many question marks behind him on the depth chart.

Perhaps, the only other player of note at the position is Jake Ryan. Ryan was once the starter who had a somewhat promising future. However, he has struggled mightily against the pass, continuously being exposed and targeted by opposing offenses.

This is where Burks comes in. Burks played some linebacker and some safety at Vanderbilt. One of his biggest assets is his speed and his ability to cover running backs and tight ends. He’ll be able to use this speed to not only acquire three interceptions, but to get after the quarterback as well. The dominant defensive line will do an amazing job keeping the offensive line busy, allowing Burks to squirt through undetected and bring down the quarterback at least three times.
