8. Sam Shields, Cornerback

Sam Shields is unquestionably one of the best Packers cornerbacks of the past decade. That doesn’t mean his journey has had a clear path though. Like a few others on the list, Shields was an undrafted free agent. He played wide receiver in college at Miami (FL) for the first three years, but switched for his Senior season.

The former wideout is known for his incredible speed, which he showcased at his pro day by running a 4.3 40-yard dash. Shields is an athletic freak, which covered his mishaps whenever he misjudged a throw.

The 2013 season was arguably Shields’ best season. He intercepted four passes and broke up another 16. To complement, he accumulated 61 total tackles. Oddly enough, he made his only Pro Bowl the season after.

Shields’ biggest downfall during his time with Green Bay was his history of concussions, which ultimately led to him sitting out all but one game in 2016. He also missed the entire 2017 season due to lingering concussion symptoms, but signed with the Los Angeles Rams this offseason.  Shields was more than a solid-starter during his time with the Packers.
