Milwaukee Bucks: 5 reasons to love the Mike Budenholzer hire

4. Defensive potential

Although Budenholzer isn’t known as a defensive genius, he has coached some very good defensive teams with the Hawks.

Despite Atlanta never having a top notch star, they did have a collection of very good players that bought into his defensive system. This allowed them to play solid, fundamental team defense and lock opponents down.

During his time in Atlanta, his team featured a top-six defense on three separate occasions. Milwaukee certainly has better talent at the top of their roster, but they will need the buy-in from everyone (I’m looking at you Eric Bledsoe and Jabari Parker) in order to reach their full potential.

Budenholzer has a history of creating a system that is effective and uses his team’s strengths to their fullest. He should be able to help the Bucks in this regard as well.
