Green Bay Packers 2018 rookie impact predictions
By David Steger
This year’s Green Bay Packers draft have impact players down the list. Some of these rookies should be able to contribute right away.
Only if it could fast forward right to Sep. 9, 2018 for Week 1 of the Green Bay Packers 2018 regular season. Packers have been through free agency, the combine and the draft.
The fans now have full trust in general manager Brian Gutekunst because he stayed aggressive like he had promised from the day he was hired. He was so aggressive, he managed somehow to get the New Orleans Saints to give the Packers in a second first-round pick in 2019 in exchange for Green Bay’s first this season.
As a result that new regime has brought in top-tier talent that can contribute from multiple rounds. The new rookies have a range of week 1 starters, sub-package rotation players and special teams players. The impact from this 2018 draft class has to be somewhat significant especially to get the Packers ready for deep playoff runs again.
To grade the potential of this draft class, I have gone through the eleven draft picks of this year’s class and assigned an impact rating scale. The impact ratings assigned to each player is based on how much playing time the rookie can get in 2018. The relevance of the round they were drafted adds zero influence on the scale and is only based on what they can do for the Green Bay Packers in the upcoming season.
The rating very low and low means they will contribute only to special teams or practice squad. The medium rating can be high special teams playing along with sub-package involvement. High and very high is being on the field for 60 percent or more of the snaps and within the starting lineup rotation.
